Over 90% of our production ends up in private residences all across the country and Canada. However, our pieces are frequently specified for commercial use by Architects and Landscape Architects because of some properties about our work that are not available or attainable from other manufacturers.
Strength
Our pieces, simply stated, are the strongest pieces available - anywhere. They are truly four season pieces and are winter hardy, even in the extreme climates we have here in Maine. We do not cast our planters and urns (see About Concrete). Instead we hand pack a dense, polymerized, high strength concrete on top of an interior mold. Successive layers are wrapped in a galvanized steel reinforcing matrix and finally turned on a wheel to complete the vessel.
Custom Color Match
In addition to our 13 standard color finishes we can match any sample color or texture. Our coloring process is comprised of an extremely high strength concrete into which we infuse light-fast, natural pigments and polymers. Each piece is completely sandblasted prior to the onset of the color process so that there is both a physical and a chemical bonding of the pigmented concrete finish. The hand application of this finish allows us to produce any texture we wish.
Hand Craftmanship
Every Lunaform planter, urn, amphora, birdbath or fountain is completely built and colored by hand. Because each piece is turned on a wheel there are no exterior seam lines such as you would find on cast products. Our pieces are handcrafted from top to bottom, beginning to end and this care is apparent in every finished piece.
Glaze
Any piece can be finished with an amazingly durable glazing sealant which functions as an anti-grafitti surface protector and, in multiple layers, a glaze finish similar to that on fired ceramic pottery. Pure acid could be poured on this glaze material and it would not touch the underlying color finish.
Custom Design / Detailing
We can make any number and shape of custom pieces. If it is round, we can create it. Because we fabricate every aspect of new molds ourselves, from building the custom, interior molds to steel shaping and welding of the templates and turntables, our custom piece charges are more reasonable than most.
